About Our Organization
The mission of the Young Men’s Christian Association of McCook, Nebraska is to organize human, financial and material resources to encourage the spiritual, physical, mental, and leadership growth of any individual within a Christian atmosphere.
At the YMCA of McCook, our cause is strengthening the foundations of our community. Every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors to ensure everyone, regardless of age, income, or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.
We offer a wide range of programs and activities for the whole family. Of course, there are fitness classes and exercise equipment to keep our members healthy and physically fit. But more importantly, the YMCA provides a fun, social atmosphere, where you will be missed if you skip a swim class or a weight-lifting session.
The YMCA is the major provider of youth and adult recreational activities, as well as the leader in providing health enhancement programs and opportunities for the citizens of Southwest Nebraska and Northwest Kansas. The YMCA also provides a safe facility where area youth can hang out while being supervised or participate in organized activities.
The YMCA offers a variety of youth sports such as basketball and soccer, adult sports such as pickleball and volleyball, and wellness programs for all ages including indoor cycling and cardio dance. The YMCA continues to be the leaders in the aquatic field offering progressive swim and lifeguard lessons, as well as providing time for high school swim team and competitive youth swim teams.
The values and skills learned early in life are vital building blocks for a successful adulthood, and we believe all kids deserve a strong start and a safe place to grow. Parents trust the Y’s Youth Development programs to support and nurture their children from infancy through the teen years and help them become strong, capable and engaged young people.
Current Project: Organization & Facility Improvements
In our ongoing quest to serve our members and the community, the YMCA of McCook is committed to provide quality experiences. In doing so, our organization has identified necessary improvements to be made in our Aquatics, Youth Development, Fitness, and Sports Departments. These include equipment upgrades as well as facility updates and renovations. In order to remain relevant in our industry and to provide exceptional service to our members and guests, it is critical that we work to improve our amenities in an effort to continually promote healthy and active lifestyles.
Thanks to contributions from our neighbors in this past year we were able to complete numerous facility improvements and implement new programming. Our impact this year included:
*Providing financial assistance to 224 program participants, ensuring youth, adults, and seniors can stay healthy and active, and access all programs and services.
*Taught 225 children essential, life-saving skills through swim lessons and Stacie's Otters.
*The replacement of all four basketball goals and structures for the safety of our guests, members, and employees
*Created lifelong memories with 286 summer campers providing priceless experiences
*Began creating a mural designed by staff to represent our community and YMCA to be hung in the Youth Activity Center bringing joy and color to the space.
*Welcomed 300 seniors in wellness classes and social activities, and added new Active Older Adults programming.
*New programs introduced in 2023 that we plan to become an essential part of the McCook YMCA include Active Older Adults, Tumbling, Boxing, 4v4 Adult Volleyball, Disc Golf, teen programming, and numerous new group exercise classes and times.
We need your help to ensure the McCook YMCA can continue to transform lives and strengthen our community. Revenue generated from membership fees only account for approximately 49% of our operational costs. Therefore, any funds received through the SW Nebraska Big Give are vital to ensure we have the resources necessary to continue meeting the needs of our members and the community.
